Settlement

Evidence of a human presence in Arizona dates back more than 12,000 years ago. The first Arizonans—the off shoot of migrations across the Bering Strait—were large-game hunters: their remains have been found in the San Pedro Valley in the southeastern part of the state.

500 AD - 700 AD
  1. Paleo Indians- Left Arizona for no particular reason
  2. Anasazi Indians- The name Anasazi was coined by the Navajos and means "The ancient ones who weren't with us".
  3. Hohokam Indians- The Hohokams introduced irrigation farming and has proof of evidence that still exists today.
900 AD - 1000 AD
1. Sinaqua Tribe- means "without water". Sinaquans were known for dry farming. Left Arizona in the 1300's
1500's
  1. 1583- Antonio de Espejo was the first European to step foot in Arizona.
1900's
